Wall Of Sound is a small, independent recording studio based in Leith, Edinburgh.

With decades of experience in mixing heavy music, both live and in the studio, I pride myself on being able to capture the sound of a band without putting my own stamp on it.

NNGNN – Forceful Blasphemy

Had a cracking week this week tracking drums & guitars for the upcoming e.p. from Edinburgh Black Metal merchants, NNGNN

The e.p. is called Forceful Blasphemy & will be released towards the end of the year.

I’ll post up a track and the release details in due course.

Wolf Sermon

I had Wolf Sermon in recording a 4 track demo the other week…. If you haven’t heard them yet then I suggest getting down to Bannermans in Edinburgh on Sat 26th to catch them live.

They recorded 4 excellent slabs of metal which i’m really looking forward to finishing mixing next week!

UPDATE:

The guys have now posted the songs up on their Bandcamp page…. Go check it out!

Of Spire & Throne

Last weekend saw the start of tracking for the new Of Spire & Throne album. 3 days in Edinburgh’s Chamber Studio getting the drums, bass & guitars down.

There is still a massive amount of work to go into this record but it’s shaping up to be an absolute monster!

Snaggletooth

Back at the start of February I got asked to record a live set for my pals in Tommy Concrete and the Werewolves who were doing a tribute night for Lemmy to raise money for the Ronnie James Dio cancer fund.

Being a massive Motorhead fan I couldn’t exactly turn this one down & it was a lot of fun to work on. The gig itself had a great atmosphere and gettin to mix songs i’ve been listening to for 20 years or so was great fun.

Tried to keep it as “Live” sounding as possible as I really didn’t want a proper polished sound for this one and I think it turned out great!

Check it out…

New Console

Presonus 16.4.2

So I decided to change things around a little bit and get a new mixing console. I find using an actual mixing console improves workflow dramatically but choosing the right console was difficult. There are so many to choose from, all with great features and great sound quality…

In the end I got a great deal on a Presonus 16.4.2 digital console. It provides a 18*16 interface for my pro tools rig with excellent AD/DA converters as well as 16 XMAX pre-amps but also allows me to mix much more intuitively whilst lifting some of the processing power off of the computer.

Very much looking forward to getting it set up and doing my first full session with it 🙂

More Live & Studio stuff…

Beyer M201

Been a great couple of months here at Wall Of Sound 🙂

Had studio sessions with the mighty Runemaster and new Livingston band Parallel Lights, both of which should be available soon for your aural delight!

I’ve also done a couple of really cool live recording sessions with Ricky Warwick/Damon Johnson (Black Star Riders) & Cherie Currie (The Runaways). These were a lot of fun to record but have been sent off to be mixed elsewhere. Will keep you posted on release dates etc…

Last, but not least, I picked up a few new toys for the studio in the form of a dbx channel strip, some Triton Audio Fethead inline pre’s and a Beyer M-201
