Autumn 2017

Had quite a lot on on here recently with some great bands coming through the Studio!

First up I had Juniper Grave in recording their first demo tracks. We tracked pretty much everything in a day, with Vocals being the only overdub. Really enjoyed working on this and if you’re into Occult blues rock with a slice of doom then check them out!!

Next in were Inverness’ finest, Slioch. Back in to record their second EP with me. Always fun to work with these guys & the new EP turned out Great!

I also had Michael Branagh back in working on a his new song Autmnal!

Lastly, I have had NNGNN back in mixing a live show they had recorded London. Quite intense stuff to work on but it’s sounding pretty good so far… Will update with details when I have them.

Looking forward a couple of weeks & I have Dolour & Black Market Tyrants coming in to the Studio 🙂

Gareeda – The Director’s Half-Cut

This week see’s the official release of the new Gareeda record “The Director’s Half-Cut”.

A selection of older songs the band wanted to re-record along with a few new tracks thrown into the mix. This was recorded here around October time in 2016 but the mixing didn’t get finished until March 2017…. It’s been quite a long road with this one but it turned out pretty good!

Check it out below

Cheers!

Motorhead – Electricity

Towards the end of 2016 Produce Like A Pro teamed up with producer Cameron Webb to put together a mixing course with music by Motorhead. You can check out the course here:

Mixing Motörhead with Cameron Webb

Cameron has produced every Motorhead album since 2004’s Inferno so he know’s what he’s on about. It was great to hear anecdotes & get insights into his techniques on how he recorded & mixed Motorhead.

The last part of the course was the full pro-tools session, including all original files for the song ‘Electricity’, taken from the 2015 album ‘Bad Magic’.

Motorhead are one of my favourite bands & I had a massive amount of fun mixing this… Hope you enjoy listening to it 🙂

Get in touch if you would like any recording or mixing work done.

Cheers,

Stu

New Console

Presonus 16.4.2

So I decided to change things around a little bit and get a new mixing console. I find using an actual mixing console improves workflow dramatically but choosing the right console was difficult. There are so many to choose from, all with great features and great sound quality…

In the end I got a great deal on a Presonus 16.4.2 digital console. It provides a 18*16 interface for my pro tools rig with excellent AD/DA converters as well as 16 XMAX pre-amps but also allows me to mix much more intuitively whilst lifting some of the processing power off of the computer.

Very much looking forward to getting it set up and doing my first full session with it 🙂

New Gear

Well… I’ve had a good few months of upgrading gear for the studio!

In the last 3 months I have upgraded to an Apple Imac 2.8ghz quad core which has loads more processing power than the old Macbook I was using.

I’ve upgraded my monitors to JBL LSR308 speakers. These have much better mid & low range as well as much better imaging than my old Alesis monitors. Very pleased with these 🙂

I’ve moved up to Pro-Tools 12, although I still have Logic X if anyone prefers that system.

I’ve got a load of Slate digital plugins, which are really, really nice! Some of the nicest digital EQ’s I have used, in fact 🙂

Lastly, I’ve picked up some nice deals on DI boxes & mics which round out the mic locker….

Live room is taking shape & I should hopefully get some photos up soon. Control room is still in flux but will hopefully get a more permanent solution in the game soon!

Hair Of The Dog – The Sirens Song

Hair Of The Dog - The Siren's Song Cover

We recently had the pleasure of mastering the new album from Edinburgh heavy rock band Hair Of The Dog.

This is a really great album of incredibly well crafted songs which hark back to the 70’s heyday of rock.

You can listen to ‘Wage With The Devil’ below and you can buy the whole album directly from the band here
